Organic Cotton

Earth Positive T-Shirts : Eco Merch can print your design onto these environmentally friendly t-shirts Conventional cotton t-shirts require chemical pesticides and fertilizers to grow the cotton, many of which are acutely toxic. These chemicals strip the land of its nutrients, reduce biodiversity in the eco-system, pollute the local water, make it unsafe to grow food crops on the same land, can poison food stocks and perpetuate a cycle of debt for farmers. About 20,000 deaths every year in the developing world are the result of pesticide use.

Pretty much all of the promotional t-shirt manufacturers now have ethical policies and avoid the use of sweatshops. This is a massive improvement on the previous industry activities but there is still an issue which many have not addressed. When cotton is grown and harvested and sent to places like Bangladesh, it is sorted not by farm and origin, but by quality. This means that there is no way to tell the origin of the cotton and whether it was from places like Uzbekistan where the government take children out of school so they can harvest the country's 2nd largest export. For us, even ignoring the use of dangerous chemicals, no cotton unless it is organic cotton can be considered as wholly ethical. It is for this reason that we will not supply conventional cotton garments.
